The DARC Senior Women’s Squad is a friendly group of rowers in their 20s and 30s with a range of rowing experience. We welcome new rowers to join throughout the year, including those who have completed the learn to row course, or from the University.
Training sessions are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (6 to 8 pm), and at the weekend (Saturday morning from 10 to 12, and Sunday morning from 8 to 10). Additional training on a Wednesday is available for those who are looking at competing at national events. DARC is lucky to train all year on the River Wear, with additional strength and conditioning sessions and erg sessions in our indoor gym. A typical week’s training consists of strength and conditioning and either a water or erg session on Tuesday and Thursday, and longer water sessions at the weekend.
Over the past few years, squads have raced at both local (in the North East) and national competitions in sweeping and sculling events. Squads have raced in southern competitions including Strathclyde Regatta, Nottingham City Regatta, Metropolitan Regatta and Henley Women’s Regatta.
DARC Senior Women row hard and train hard, but we also enjoy having breakfast at the club after weekend training sessions, and going out for drinks in Durham!
We’re really keen for novice or experienced scullers, sweepers or coxes to join; so if you’re interested please get in touch.
