On the morning of Thursday, August 15th around 60 members and invited guests from Tees and Hexham Rowing Clubs took part in a scratch regatta for eights and coxed quads organised by DARC’s daytime rowers which involved crews being drawn at random from the three clubs. After a series of races over a 400 metre course along the Racecourse Team D ran out winners in the eights races while Team G won the quads. Added to this was the chance of a more leisurely paddle down the river in random crews for our visitors to enjoy the beauty of the location.
A fun morning was followed by a convivial social gathering with a BBQ and buffet lunch served in the main hall.
An enjoyable time was had by all and with very positive feedback being received from many who took part we hope to organise similar occasions in the future. The regatta raised around £90 for club funds. Thanks to everyone involved in organising the event.
The event follows on from a visit by Durham ARC members to Tees Rowing Club in July where blustery conditions meant opportunities for rowing were virtually non-existent but the hospitality was very much enjoyed and appreciated.
In past years inter club social visits to enjoy rowing at different locations were a feature of daytime rowing but this has become more sporadic in recent times so the opportunity to revive relations is welcome. As well as regular visits to Tees and elsewhere we have entertained visitors from Nottingham in 2015 and Holland in 2016.
