After seven rounds the 2022 Sunday League competition reached its conclusion on October 2nd with the final round being hosted by Tyne Amateur Rowing Club.
Celebrating its tenth anniversary the competition for novice and recreational rowers was returning this year from a Covid induced absence, and Sunday’s splash & dash sculling round in stable quads attracted 12 entries from clubs in the Northern region as well as one from Sheffield who were competing for a second year.
Durham Kingfishers from Durham ARC made their 4th appearance of the series, represented on the day by Andrea Riddell, Gary Walker, John Carter, Alison Hoare and cox Paddy Fletcher, who emerged triumphant with 4 wins from their 4 races over a 300 metre course, while being left to rue what the outcome would have been had the crew been available for every round.
The League is divided into Open and Women’s competitions and the winners of both were crowned after the end of the final round, with Berwick’s Best from Berwick ARC winnng the Open series and S-quads on Fire from Tyne United RC winning the Women’s.
Tynemouth Buoys finished as runners-up in the Open league and TURC-eys on Tour from Tyne United RC were second in the Women’s league.
