Five trailers and 24 crews headed to Hexham on Saturday, June 5th, bringing to an end what was, for most, an enforced break from competitions over the previous 18 months.
Coming the week before Durham Regatta, Hexham Regatta is always very popular with college rowers, and this year was no exception, with 48 entries from Durham University Colleges.
An exciting day ensued while competitors did their best to follow the guidelines on Covid restrictions.
DARC came away with 10 victories and lots of medals as a result of wins for the senior squads in the Women’s 4x- and Open 2x band 2. David Rutter outpaced opposition from Durham University to win the Open 1x, while the J17 girls won band 1 of the Senior Women’s Eight, defeating several college eights in the process.
Other wins for the juniors came in the WJ17 4x-, WJ16 4x-, J15 4x+ and J14 4x+. Orlagh Windle won the WJ16 1x, and the DARC WMasC crew overcame the DARC WMasD crew to win the Women’s Masters 4x-.
